NAEP Facts: 1998 Reading Results for Low-Performing Students: Vol. 4, No. 4, May 2000 Provides information from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) 1998 Reading Assessment for low-performing students, defined for NAEP's purposes as students in grades 4, 8, and 12 who fall in the 10th and 25th percentiles. This publication includes tables showing comparisons of 1998 scores with 1992 and 1994 scores, for low-performing students at each grade level. Title I Services for Private School Students Under the Reauthorization of ESEA: A Snapshot of Federal Assistance in Transition: Final Report 1998 Summarizes findings from surveys of Title I district administrators and private school representatives regarding the provision of Title I services to eligible private school students. This report includes information on the procedures that districts use to count the number of low-income students enrolled in private schools; Title I program services available to private school students; resource allocations, including the use of capital expense funds; and student assessment and program evaluation. 09/01/1998

Read With Me: A Guide for Student Volunteers Starting Early Childhood Literacy Programs Discusses the Harvard Emerging Literacy Project, which places undergraduate literacy volunteers in Head Start classrooms in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This booklet also provides guidelines for starting such a project, including understanding basic principles, taking advantage of school resources, training, recruiting volunteers, and working with communities. It then presents a summary of recent brain research and discussions of the role families and communities play, children in poverty, and why young children need help. Longitudinal Evaluation of School Change and Performance [LESCP] in Title I Schools: Interim Report to Congress Describes the purposes and design of the Longitudinal Evaluation of School Change and Performance (LESCP) study. This publication presents highlights of its findings to date that measure changes over time in selected students, classrooms, and schools participating in Title I.
